David Hicks

Founder and Attorney

David, a native of Floyd County in Kentucky’s Appalachian coalfields, is a lifelong Kentuckian and proud of it. After completing a rigorous prep-school curriculum at the renowned Piarist School, he attended the University of Kentucky, earning B.A. degrees in History and French in 2007. David balanced his studies with up to four jobs to cover school expenses, exemplifying the hard work and dedication he brings to his legal career.

Uncertain of his career path as an undergraduate, David applied to law school on a whim and was accepted to the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law, where he graduated in 2010. In his first year, he received the Best Oral Argument Award in his Legal Writing class and actively participated in organizations such as the Federalist Society, the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the Recruitment Committee.

David began his career as a law clerk for Judge James C. Brantley in Hopkins County, where he drafted numerous judicial decisions, many of which were signed by the presiding judge without revisions. Reflecting on this experience, he notes, “The best way to convince a judge is to think like one.” This clerkship exposed him to a wide range of legal issues, spanning civil and criminal law.

Following his clerkship, David joined a national Social Security Disability law firm, representing clients at all stages of the SSA disability appeals process. Licensed to practice before the SSA at every level of disability adjudication, he has represented clients with social security disability claims in over thirty states, from Hawaii to Maine. His drive to serve clients led him to establish his own firm in 2017, where he represents clients in disability, personal injury, and family law cases.

Since 2017, David has handled divorce and custody cases, achieving results that exemplify his thorough approach to family law. Notably, he secured a summary judgment for a Kentucky client sued by an out-of-state plaintiff for alleged past-due child support. David located a 20-year-old court order from the other state that mandated neither party owed support, resulting in a dismissal of the case. He also has extensive experience handling complex interstate custody cases under the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA), protecting his clients’ rights across state lines.

With 15 years of legal experience, David is now licensed in both state and federal courts in Kentucky (Eastern and Western Districts), and he remains an active member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR). Outside of his legal practice, David enjoys reading, pipe smoking, traveling, and spending time with his daughter.

David is also a proud member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, an organization dedicated to promoting goodwill, service, and the spirit of Kentucky. The Kentucky Colonels are a distinguished group committed to supporting charitable and educational initiatives across the Commonwealth, emphasizing community and compassion in action.
